VQ35 CAM LASH WORKSHEET AND FOLLOWER PART NUMBERS |
This worksheet can be used to calculate which bucket followers you may need during a cam change or head modification. Also included is a fairly complete survey of all Nissan & Infiniti follower part numbers that will fit most VQ, VK, & QR engines. It is strongly advised to choose followers with a DLC (Diamond-like carbon) wear surface in all performance applications. DLC followers are denoted with an * and are available in all thickness. |

VQ35 ADJUSTABLE EXH. SPROCKETS INSTALLATION |
JWT adjustable VQ exhaust sprockets can be used by engine builders to acheive precise exhaust cam timing or eliminate exhaust cam phaser if needed. These instructions show only a basic understanding of how to position them, it is up to the engine builder to position them correctly for the intended end result. |

VQ35HR MODIFY INT CAM BOLT HOLE FOR LONG BOLT |
For VQ35HR race engines running higher than original rev limiters, it is highly recommended to use the longer 75mm sprocket bolt 13012-9N00A. This modification eliminates the torsional shear forces on the front journel by locating the bolt threads aft of the oil groove. This was also a production update in 2010. If your bolt has a "N" on the head it already has the long bolt update. |

350Z & G35 RELEASE ARM & PIVOT BALL SPECS |
If you are installing an aftermarket release arm Pin-Ball (pivot ball) with your new clutch, be sure to use the correct part for your car. Installing a pin-ball of the wrong height can cause damage to the clutch. This sheet shows the production dates, lengths and Nissan part numbers along with associated parts to confirm the correct parts are being used. |

|
300ZX EARLY STYLE FUEL INJECTOR FAILURE |
300ZX TT 90-94 and non-turbo 90-93 fuel injectors have a high failure rate as explained here. |
|
A CAUTION ON DRILLED FUEL INJECTOR |
Drilling out stock injectors to cause a higher flow rate is a great idea in theory, but when done poorly, can cause the lose of an expensive performance engine. We do not recommend these over new manufactured injectors, based on the large number of drilled injectors we receive for testing that are not even close to the precision required in an expensive performance engine. We have included here a few examples of injectors that had been drilled and sold to customers that had sent them in for flow testing. View the samples and if you still choose to go this route, do your own visual inspection and flow test before betting your engine! The state of this process is evolving and we will continue to revisit the subject, if thing improve. |

FUEL INJECTOR LATENCY EXPLAINED |
All fuel injectors take a certain amount of time to open and close. The opening and closing time of an injector must be known before a tuner can properly program the ECU. Using a Nissan detonation sensor mounted to an injector on a flow test bench, and a dual channel scope with channel 1 monitoring the injector current and channel 2 monitoring the detonation sensor, you can be easily determined.the injector latency or invalid time. |

VQ35-37 COOLING, HEAD GASKETS & HEAD BOLTS |
VQ35 / VQ37 coolant flow and head gaskets had not been optimized until the VQ35HR in 2007. The 3rd gen. HR head gaskets & head bolts are an excellent choice for boosted and race VQ35DE engines. Flash boiling in head on boost and head lifting due to poor circulation paths in 1st and 2nd gen gaskets are signifigantly improved with the 3rd gen HR gasket design. 3rd gen. gaskets also incorperate a .1mm thick fire ring preload shim in between the gasket plys, for additional combustion sealing. Also recommended on sleeved engines with flushed (not .002-.003" proud) sleeves to avoid lose of combustion seal as sleeves settle. Use HR high tension TTY bolts in DE builds to increase clamping force and avoid cylinder destortion and uneven clamp loads associated with some non-TTY stud options. |
|
VQ35DE DET. SENSOR RESPONSE FREQ. |
Sensors and devices designed to sense detonation need to be calibrated around the natural frequency of the engine assembly being sensed. This is an FFT of the dominate frequencies for a VQ35DE. Depending on external noise, one may be cleaner than the others, but this is the starting point. |
