JWT Nissan VQ Beehive Valve Spring part # A3503-BHIVE: |
Date:3/3/2021 |
JWT has just released their new VQ series beehive spring set. As JWT has pushed their VQ cam design program beyond what was possible even 5 years ago, along with required DLC coated lifters, a new valve spring design was needed. This new spring is designed to handle even the largest JWT VQ profiles (.600”+ lift) with about 3g less combined spring & retainer weight than the original VQ parts! Reliability is greatly improved by use of super clean wire material, followed by enhanced additional heat treating with a nano-peened and polished finish. The varied coil diameters of this beehive spring dampen harmonic resonance that can cause a conventional spring to surge at critical RPMs causing the valve to bounce on the seat or float. This spring uses the lighter 2013+ VQ retainer (ID 12.3mm) and needs to also be purchased if used in an earlier VQ engine with the earlier (ID 17.6mm) retainer. These springs are designed to be used with the original bottom spring shims. Fits VQ35DE, REVUP, HR, VQ37VHR (exh. only), VQ40DE, & VQ30DE.

JWT RECORD BREAKING 537WHP VQ N/A ARTICLE |
Date:1/23/2020 |
We have received a ton of questions on how we developed a 537WHP Nissan VQ engine without boost. Tommy Parry over at Enginelabs.com has released an article that spills the beans on this project. If you are curious about these kinds of things, it’s worth a read. |

WHY DID YOUR Z OR G CLUTCH CONCENTRIC SLAVE CYLINDER FAIL? |
Date:6/18/2019 |
First, a little background on this part. In 2007 Nissan had decided to upgrade the clutch release system from the antiquated and noisy external slave cylinder release system to a more modern single piece and quieter Concentric Slave Cylinder (C.S.C.) release system. This would have made perfect sense in that it was a proven way to reduce the part count as well as a reduction of N.V.H. (noise, vibration, harshness). However, soon after the introduction, it became apparent that there was an inherent issue with the design. Oddly after multiple changes to the part (4 new part numbers), this design flaw was unchanged and the failures continued.
As a manufacturer of performance clutches for Nissan vehicles, JWT had requested a large collection of failed cylinders from customers and dealership technicians that were also concerned. Consistent among all of the failed samples was a large ingestion of clutch dust into the cylinder’s inner sealing sleeve and ultimately passing through the hydraulic seal itself. In most cases the seal had not been damaged, but had been contaminated by large amounts of clutch dust which would eventually lift the seal off of the sleeve allowing fluid to escape to the exterior of the cylinder. On many of the failed cylinders this condition was expedited by distortion of the plastic piston / seal support used as a substitute for a more appropriate metal piston / seal support as a cost saving measure.
It was glaringly obvious that 12 axial grooves on the inside diameter of the plastic piston were allowing clutch dust to migrate from the front of the cylinder to the seal at the back end of the piston and ultimately acrossed the seal resulting in the pattern failure seen on the sample cylinders. This design of 12 axial grooves in the sliding surface correctly decreased the sliding friction as intended but myopically failed to mitigate the propagation of clutch dust into the seal itself!
JWT has designed a new direct fit C.S.C. that addresses both issues with the O.E. cylinder by incorporating an all-aluminum piston / seal support featuring 2 full radial PTFE sleeve wipers dramatically reducing friction and clutch dust migration to the seal. The JWT C.S.C. is a direct fit replacement for the original C.S.C. using all of the original factory hydraulic lines and fittings with no modifications or additional hoses, simply install the same as a stock C.S.C. RECORD BREAKING JWT 537WHP ALL-MOTOR VQ |
Date:6/1/2019 |
2019 has seen a lot of new research and development make it to the track for JWT. One example is this world record breaking 537 WHP non-boosted VQ built for Sasha Anis of OnPoint Dyno. JWT specs for the new engine include a set of prototype camshafts that required the heads be machined for larger cam follower to accept the new profile. Also contributing to the success were a set of JWT pistons designed to provide 15:1 compression using a new 2 ring sealing package. SEE DYNO HERE

released: VQ35DE ADJ. CAM PHASER LOCK KIT |
Date:12/21/2018 |
Jim Wolf Technology VQ35DE adjustable intake cam phaser lock kit AVQ35-IPLOC $274.00, including Optional: VG30DE(TT) CAS adaptor kit AVQ35-VGCAS $206.78
For use in VQ35DE engines that require Intake cam timing to be locked in a specific position. Larger cam profiles combined with high dome pistons and or larger valve diameters can cause interference damage during normal phaser operation if not physically locked to a position that does not cause interference. Combined with JWTs VQ35 Adjustable Exhaust Cam Sprockets AVQ35-EGEAR, any cam timing setup can be achieved. This kit may also be needed when a VQ35DE is used with an ECU / control system that does not control cam phasing, requiring the intake cam timing to be locked. In the latter case, the JWT VG CAS Adaptor AVQ35-IPLOC can be added to eliminate the need for the original VQ flywheel and cam sensors simplifying an engine swap when using any control system that can accept a Nissan VG30DE Position and Reference signal for crank and cam positions AVQ35-IPLOC. opt. 350Z WINS 25HRS OF THUNDER HILL --JWT CAMSHAFTS |
Date:12/20/2016 |
Congrats to Brian Lock and crew for an amazing win in a 350Z! Brian has many years racing 350Z & 370Zs, but this is his first victory in this highly competitive endurance race. Brian chose to run a very conservative engine recipe for absolute reliability. Working with Clark Steppler, our senior engineer, an almost stock engine with JWT C1HR cams was assembled, and did the job perfectly. Thanks for including us in the effort Brian and crew, this is why we still love this stuff! On track video |

JUST RELEASED 05+ FRONTIER QR25 JWT LOW INTERTIA FLYWHEEL |
Date:8/12/2015 |
With the huge success of our VQ40 Frontier truck flywheel, we are excited to announce the release of the QR25 Frontier low inertia flywheel. JWT aluminum low inertia flywheels offer Frontier owners the option of ditching the stock troublesome and expensive dual mass flywheel at a reasonable price. JWT low inertia flywheels increase throttle response, decrease synchronizer wear, and decelerate quickly to reduce wear on brakes. While the stock dual mass flywheel is not serviceable (according to Nissan), the JWT flywheel has a replaceable friction surface eliminating the cost of future flywheel replacements. JWT has many clutch kits for the Frontier Truck; contact Ben for a package deal! |

Precision Cam Timing |
Date:6/17/2015 |
Used to be a time an engine builder could build 5 identical race engines and the dyno results would vary as much as 5% between them. Today that is about the same difference between a first place engine and the last, no longer acceptable! Stackup or summation of error will creep into the build if measurement tools are not calibrated to at least twice the precision and accuracy required. It is possible for engine build calibrations to repeat within 1% engine to engine. Here is an example of a final cam-timing jig used at JWT to insure engine-to-engine results are well within that 1%. Accuracy is .25 crank degrees and lift points are accurate to .0001”.

WHY DO I NEED TO SPEND OVER $1000.00 FOR A NEW FLYWHEEL? |
Date:3/26/2015 |
If you ever get that fateful call from a salivating service advisor that not only is your clutch worn out, but that your $1200 dual-mass flywheel has failed, this might interest you.
Why do I have a flywheel at all?
A flywheel is needed to store energy as each cylinder fires and then release it between power pulses. Depending on the mass of the flywheel, overall energy storage can also smooth out energy sent to the wheels. For the “less conscious driver” a heavier flywheel allows for a bit sloppier throttle style, and a lighter flywheel produces quicker acceleration and deceleration as well as quicker shifts, and reduced loading on the transmission synchronizers.
What is this Dual-mass flywheel and do I have one?
A dual-mass flywheel is an assembly of weights, springs and bearings designed to contribute to an overall perception of smoothness of the drive train. While not necessary to the overall operation of the vehicle, the dual-mass flywheel was one of many devices conceived to decrease noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) along with electronic motor mounts and other sundry devices. While these additions are nice, they are not necessary and can contribute significantly to the long-term cost of operation of a vehicle. A replacement Dual-Mass flywheel for a Z or G can set you back over a thousand dollars, several times the cost of a conventional replacement flywheel! Oh, and the factory service manual states that even if the dual-mass unit’s internals haven’t yet failed, your service technician cannot resurface it like a conventional flywheel, it must always be replaced!
If you drive a 2003 or later G or Z stick shift, you have one.
The solution:
JWT has supplied lightweight performance flywheel alternatives to the original Z & G dual-mass flywheel for over 10 years. However, some people still prefer the more forgiving driving style a heavier flywheel allows, but haven’t warmed to the expense and failure rate associated with dual-mass flywheels. JWT now offers their new conventional clutch and solid single mass flywheel kit that maintains similar inertia to the original flywheel while eliminating the expense and higher failure rate, at about half the cost! Like all JWT flywheels, the friction surface is serviceable allowing it to be reused with multiple clutch replacements for even more cost savings in the future! Complete kits start at $529. |

Take a lap at Winston in the Jack Daniel’s Altima |
Date:9/12/2014 |
Customers ask what their JWT camshafts will sound like at wide open throttle. While the cams JWT designs and supplies for Nissan’s V8 Supercar Altimas are developed specifically for them, you can get an idea of what a set of perfectly tuned cams sounds like in a Nissan VK race engine wide open. SWEET! |
|
VQ & VK 1000CC/MIN INJECTOR KIT |
Date:5/6/2014 |
JWT now offers a 1000cc/min. fuel injector solution for the Nissan VQ V6 and the VK V8 that doesn’t require added resistors, is E85 compliant, uses a multi-hole spray cap, hasn’t been drilled or molested and comes with everything needed for installation. This Bosch injector is from their newest EV14 series that features all stainless wetted components, and their latest armature / pintle technology that achieves short opening latency similar to the original stock injectors that flowed 66% less! Shorter latency and unmodified spray nozzles might not make much difference at wide open throttle, but will definitely keep the tuners job from becoming a nightmare on part throttle tuning! This is a pro-tuner choice for hi-output boosted engines.

JWT VQ35 “C” SERIES CAMS - 100+WHP PER LITRE NO BOOST! |
Date:2/12/2013 |
Take a look at Modified Magazine this month (March ’13) for a great article that answers the question: What does it take to build a VQ35 into the 100+WHP per liter class without boost? Sasha Anis does a brilliant, no B.S. analysis of the process, moving through the tuning options like the pro he is, to find the effective elements, explaining what works and what doesn’t, but more importantly, explaining why. JWT was glad to be a part of his testing, by providing some of our larger VQ Camshafts, which typically don’t see the light of day outside of the Pro-racing world. This article would be a good intro to these profiles for anyone wanting to use JWT VQ35 “C” Series cams in their own engine build, NA or boosted. (Click on picture to see the article.) |

JWT / GTX700+ Turbo Upgrade for Z32 released! |
Date:3/9/2012 |
JWT was instrumental in the development of the original Garrett GT2860 turbos years back and has always used the GT series as the bases for all of our Z32 turbo upgrade kits. First again, JWT is proud to make available our newest Sport turbos with the new GTX Port Shroud compressor housings and phenomenal GTX Billet wheels. Anyone that has used our 700 series turbos but where forced to use the smaller A/R exhaust housings for better spoolup, will love these state of the art GTX compressors. With the extreme improvement in compressor efficiency, you can now get that same spoolup response using the larger exhaust housing without the exhaust flow choke of the small A/R housings at peak power! This is the first Z32 turbo upgrade to feature a Port Shroud Compressor Housing into the O.E. flange configuration (or any other come to think of it). When you add an ultra high efficient billet wheel like the GTX, a port shroud is needed to allow the wheel to keep flowing under all pressure ratios and not choke off early. Call Ben at JWT for orders or more information. |

JWT VQ35 ADJUSTABLE EXHAUST CAM GEARS |
Date:3/1/2012 |
JWT has just added this set of adjustable VQ exh. cam gears for engine builders intent on gaining the most out of a VQ35 or VQ40 engine, turbo or NA. With eight positions of 2.5 crank degrees each, these gears allow enough adjustment to span a full tooth if needed for infinite cam timing corrections. The gears open up many possibilities like converting Revup engines to run in DE configuration, resetting exhaust cams after altering crank sprocket timing, and just being able to easily explore all cam timing options. JWT Z32 LATE STYLE INJECTOR TO EARLY RAIL ADAPTOR KIT |
Date:3/1/2012 |
1990 to ‘94 300ZXs suffers from an inherent design flaw of the fuel injectors. Nissan used a uniquely designed wet coil type injector back then that left the injector coil wire exposed to chemical attack from oxidizers added to gasoline as years went on. To compound the problem, Nissan designed the injector electrical circuit so the 12V+ side was hot all the time, even when you are in bed sleeping! Once the injector coil insulation has started to deteriorate, a small amount of current can flow across the fuel, eventually shorting the injector coil or in many cases, cause an open circuit in the injector, either way, you end up with dead injectors.
The late style injectors used from 1995 don’t have this issue (Nissan also fixed the 12V+ problem with a switched supply on the later cars). So if you plan on growing old with an early Z32, you will want to convert to the late style injectors and this kit is the least painful way to do it! There are other solutions and other adaptors, but this kit provides the lowest profile top clamp available, for easy access without pulling the upper manifold. Other adaptor designs leave a significant void around the lower nozzle, causing fuel to accumulate and drip at idle, not so conducive to a smooth idle! Our lower adaptor specifically addresses this by filling in the void between the injector and the fuel rail. Kit includes 6 upper and lower adaptors, bolts, and lower adaptor O-rings. Various sized late injectors, ECU calibrations, and electrical connectors are also in stock. Call JWT for more info. Part # IZ320-L2EAD

In Production: JWT 6-Speed Trans Adaptor for 300ZX (Z32) |
Date:4/19/2011 |
The 350Z & Infiniti G came with a very strong 6-Speed transmission that is starting to show up more and more at the auto recyclers, making for a reasonably priced option for other high-powered Nissans. Unfortunately, it sports an integrated bell housing, making this conversion difficult at best. By scrounging an automatic tranny bell housing from an automatic that was fitted to the same motor you are adapting to, this adaptor ties everything together. Either the 07+ 350Z Concentric Release Bearing or an aftermarket C.R.C. (Tilton) can be used. The no longer used VQ35 bell housing is cut away and the new adaptor replaces the original front sealing cover. This adaptor can mount a 6-Speed to a VG30DE(TT), SR20DE, KA24DE, or VH45DE engine. Adaptors for the VK56 and others will be available soon after the release of this adaptor. Contact Ben for release date or other information. 619 442-0680 |

MATT POWERS' JWT KA24DE POWERED S14 D1 DRIFT CAR |
Date:4/9/2010 |
Congrats to Matt, for his newly added sponsors, Nitto and Need For Speed. We always knew Matt’s talent and eclectic style would pay off!
Drifting has always left the old school crowd scratching their heads, kind of like traditional snow skiing when those outlandish snowboarders showed up. They eventually got over it, much the same way that drifting is now becoming a mainstream auto sport. Don’t believe it, just take a look at the new sponsors gaining access to this culturally unique sport. Glad to be onboard!
Matt’s current KA24DE engine calibration includes the new JWT C78 Series Camshafts and a JWT Engine Control Unit. Combined with a new Garrett GT30 turbo, Matt will be running an additional 100WHP and at less boost than last years setup!

KA24DE JWT C78 288/280DEG .480 |
Date:3/31/2010 |
Jim Wolf Technology has successfully completed the first profile in a new series of Extreme Camshafts for the KA24DE engine. Cam on valve engines such as the KA have a very basic valve train, no push rods or rocker arms, just a valve with a bucket follower and a cam lobe all stack on top of each other. This has a great advantage with respect to kinetic motion plus significantly lowers the mass and elasticity compared to a push rod engine or even a cam on rocker overhead cam engine. The bad news is that there is no way to leverage the cam motion to the valve, since there is no rocker to increase lift at the valve. The KA24DE is strictly one to one lift, so what on the surface seems to be simple and efficient suddenly becomes a nightmare for the cam designer trying to out flow a competing rocker type engine! This was a problem JWT was asked to solve for the KA engines used in the C.O.R.E. Pro-Lite off road series, in which Nissan runs the KA24DE. From this development comes their new C78 Extreme cam profile with more than a 50% increase in open area on the intake valve! DLC (diamond-like coating) followers make this possible, and absolutely must be used with this profile. The good news is that the C78 cams are precision ground to use the stock Nissan VQ35HR DLC followers, which cost about the same as the stock non-DLC followers, very nice! Call JWT for details including valve spring specs. A2401-NTC78 280/288 DEG. .444”/.480” LIFT |

JUST RELEASED JWT CS2 CAM SET FOR 2007+ VK56 V8 |
Date:2/16/2010 |
JWT has released the first performance camshafts available for the 2007+ VK56DE, which incorporates intake cam phasers for a much broader torque curve. The ability to gain over 26 WHP and still maintain a wide torque curve is owing to JWT’s years of development on Nissan VQ35 V6, which has always used intake cam phasers. This new VK engine has a mass flow balance that allowed JWT to design the new CS2 profiles to run safely to 6500 rpm (well beyond peak power) with only a spring upgrade on the intake side. Manny's SR20 Surprise: |
Date:2/15/2010 |
$100k+ sand toys are F-U-N, no doubt, but Manny Canizales has added just a little more fun to the game. Within this rarefied playground, the power plant du jour is a stiffly built LS V8. Manny, a Nissan Master Tech from San Diego decided that a lowly Nissan SR20 4 cylinder that could out run the V8s, would just be a little more interesting. I personally had the opportunity to ride along with Manny at Glamis, Ca when he ran an identical, but LS V8 equipped sand car on the 1/8 mile, pulling ahead of the LS every gear!
Starting with a Pulsar GTIR engine, adding a JWT Control System, JWT S3M Cams, and a Garrett GT30 BB turbo, Manny has a reliable 500HP+ on tap. The Buggy is starting its 3rd season on the sand and as always, getting more attention after every run than the V8 guys! |

JWT Oil Pan Spacer Kits just released for VQ35HR, 370Z & G37 |
Date:8/25/2009 |
350Z / G35 / 370Z / G37 Oil Pan Spacer Kits:
Add a full quart of additional oil capacity in less than an hour! This is the cheapest engine insurance available when racing your Z or G. Adding an additional quart of oil and dropping the oil pickup 1” deeper in the pan, makes this upgrade a great addition for street and track cars. Also not a bad option for those that seldom check the oil level between changes! This spacer kit was originally designed for JWT’s Z & G Twin Turbo kits to add oil capacity and provide an oil return routing for the turbos. Due to the large number of requests, they now offer it available separately without the turbo oil drain fittings. |

JWT 2007+ 370Z / G37 / 350Z / G35 DUAL POP-CHARGER SYSTEMS |
Date:2/9/2009 |
Well, we didn’t think we’d do it! In 2007 Nissan drastically improved the VQ35 intake system by adding an extra throttle, so the question was, is there any room for improvement? After a full year of testing JWT got the answer, "YES", but only with the most efficient Pop-Charger Venturi inlets and hood-sealed heat shields. In addition to a 6.5 to10 WHP improvement, the tone of the engine due to the dual 6” venturis is definitely the most beautiful sound ever heard from a VQ engine! $395
*** UPDATE: 370Z RELEASED! PRE-ORDERS ARE NOW SHIPPING!***

Yep, 2 grand a set (if they’re for sale), 3 laps total life span and presto, 5 seconds a lap, gone. NEW JWT IN-CHASSIS VALVE SPRING TOOL |
Date:11/16/2008 |
Anyone that builds engines has probably had to do a valve spring swap in the vehicle. It’s not pretty at best and a full-on disaster if you lose a retainer lock in the engine while struggling to hold a lever arm compressor in one hand and removing retainer locks with the other. This tool allows a single technician to replace valve springs in a safe and professional manner without removing the cylinder heads from the vehicle. By incorporating a modified follower bucket to compress each spring, the retainer locks can be set on top of the follower and moved safely into place with no chance of falling in the engine, leaving both hand free to precisely complete the job. It can also be used with heads off the engine. Worth every penny at $89.95 even if you only use it once! Fits most Nissan VQ,KA,QR, &VK Engines. We also loan these tools at no charge to customers purchasing JWT Cam and Spring Sets. |

JWT IS DEVELOPING VQ40 ENGINE PRODUCTS FOR OFF ROAD SERIES |
Date:2/28/2007 |
JWT has always been a part of Nissan’s Off Road Racing development in the U.S., and now for Nissan of Mexico, as they campaign a Nissan Frontier in the Score 7SX truck class for 2007. This was a chance for JWT to work closely with the VQ40 and see what it can do. The 7SX class limits the engine to a “production” ECU and Intake system. The complexity of the VQ40’s original cam phasing and E-throttle system proved to be more of a liability than advantage and since a “production ECU / manifold must be used, a JWT Calibrated Z32 ECU and a Maxima manifold where substituted. This allows the engine to use a cable controlled throttle and locked camshafts. JWT Camshafts, Cam Dephaser kit and springs are used along with a JWT Clutch and Flywheel. JWT will be making these and other VQ40 products available soon, call for info. |

Congrats to the 2006 JWT Tuned D1 Drift Teams |
Date:2/6/2006 |
Jim Wolf Technology would like to congratulate the JWT Tuned D1 Drift Teams on a great kick off to 2006. We have learned a lot from the 2005 season and have produced a number of new Engine Combinations for '06. Unlike engine calibrations for Drag or road racing, D1 drift engines require a much higher degree of throttle responsiveness, much like street tuning. Many years of similar throttle sensitive tuning in both Rally and Off-road racing have contributed to the success of JWT's D1 drift series products. 2006 JWT D1 drift specific products are now available including Cams, ECU, Clutch/flywheels, and more for SR20, KA24, VQ30-35, RB, and most other Nissan performance engines. Call for info and orders. |

350Z TWIN TURBO KIT UPDATE |
Date:1/31/2006 |
The latest on the JWT 350Z/G35 Turbo Systems:
JWT continues working towards achieving what no other company has done, CARB certification of a turbo system for the 350Z and G35. As this work progresses we have not ignored the rest of the world in showing off the new Twin Turbo Systems. Both Sport Z Magazine and Road & Track Speed invited us to put our new TT System to a shoot out with all of the other Z/G turbo and supercharger systems.
Here is what they said:
Below is the 350Z engine layout. The street kits will be ready to ship once the CARB certification process is complete. Note the intercoolers on the 350Z below. A completely integral center casting was designed to achieve a near perfect flow to the throttle tube, while using the maximum frontal area of the stock body nose. No stock parts including bumper bar or air bag sensors are moved or modified! Also note that all of the fluid bottles retain the stock locations.
Below is the first dyno session above the 6.8psi production boost, which shows off the incredible drivability of the kit. This is a kit that is specifically designed to put all of the power exactly were it can be used! Note the amazing mean hp of 310.9, this is the most important HP number for comparison as it represents the total area under the curve for the run. A somewhat useless "Brag Number" just before the rev cut, will never make you smile as much as a high mean overall HP and torque value. Keep in mind that this is still with all of the catalytic converters in place! We will let you know when the emission testing is finished.

QR25DE Balancer Shaft Removal kit NOW AVAILABLE |
Date:3/9/2005 |
The Balancer Shaft Removal kit is a must for high RPM performance. The QR25DE comes equipped with a balancer shaft assembly that spins at twice engine speed to generate an opposing inertial mass. While this contributes to a small decrease in the perceived vibration, it also causes a loss of power, increased bearing loads (counter-acting inertial loads), oil aeration, and failure of the assembly itself under high RPM conditions. The balancer shaft removal kit comes complete with an oil scraper plate for proper oil separation along with an oil baffle plate to reduce oil slosh in the pan.
INSTALLATION TAKES ABOUT 2 HOURS AND IS DONE COMPLETELY FROM THE LOWER PAN COVER. COMES WITH FULL INSTRUCTIONS.
